This highlights that collaborative effort is the best way to approach prevention. We are proud to work with the whole community to implement research-supported strategies to educate and support Pleasantville’s youth, keeping them healthy and STRONG. We do this by:
- Raising awareness of issues impacting youth by partnering with community organizations to disseminate information
- Providing skills and training to the community through speakers and workshops
- Changing social norms through both positive messaging and emphasis on the perception of harm
- Reducing access to alcohol by encouraging parents and older siblings to refrain from providing alcohol and working with local law enforcement to deter use.
One key component of the DFC grant is the representation from multiple community sectors:
- Youth
- Parents
- Business
- Media
- School
- Youth-Serving Organizations
- Law Enforcement
- Religious or Fraternal Organizations
- Civic or Volunteer Groups
- Healthcare Professional Organizations
- State, Local, and Tribal Government Agencies
- Other Local Organizations Involved in Reducing Substance Use
