Marijuana Use

  • 12.5% of Pleasantville High School seniors reported using marijuana in the past 30 day use survey. 2022 Search Institute Survey administered to grades 7-12.

  • The risk of developing Marijuana Use Disorder is greater in people who start using marijuana during youth or adolescence and who use Marijuana more frequently.
  • We know the teen brain is actively developing and continues to develop until around age 25. The use of Marijuana during adolescence and young adulthood may cause permanent damage to the developing brain. Areas affected are memory, learning, attention, decision- making, reaction time, and coordination.
  • There is no regulation for the amount of THC (the mind-altering chemical that makes the user high) found in today’s Marijuana. The level of THC has increased from 4% in 1990 to 65% today in smoked marijuana and levels as high as 90% THC are found in concentrates such as gummies, waxy concentrates.
